To many, Labor Day weekend marks the unofficial end of summer (the first day of fall is actually a few weeks later, on Sept. 22) — but as shopping editors, we like to think of it as the kick-off to a season of savings events that’ll take us right through the holidays. If you’re as much of a fan of scoring stellar deals as we are, you can get in on the action early, thanks to a slew of Labor Day sales that are live as we speak.

Of course, there’s a lot happening this time of year, like back-to-school and last-minute summer vacations, so it can feel overwhelming trying to hunt down Labor Day deals that are worth your time. But have no fear: our trusty team of Yahoo shopping experts is here to help. Here’s what you need to know about the upcoming Labor Day savings events, plus some sales you can shop now.

When do Labor Day sales start?

Labor Day is Monday, Sept. 1, which means the holiday weekend officially starts Saturday, Aug. 30. You can expect savings to kick in well before the weekend, anywhere from a few days to a few weeks before, depending on the retailer. We’re already seeing some major markdowns!

What will be on sale for Labor Day?

If it’s anything like the last several years, a lot! We’ll reiterate some great advice we received from shopping expert Andrea Woroch: “Long holiday weekends like Labor Day represent a good time to buy big-ticket items like mattresses and furniture. … Retailers selling these items are looking to maximize sales and know shoppers are more likely to browse and buy if there’s a deal available.” So, if you’re looking to save big bucks on big buys, now is a great time.

You’ll also be able to snag sweet deals on items like summer clothes (to save for next year!), appliances, school and desk supplies, electronics and more. Plus, if you’ve yet to upgrade your outdoor space, there’s no time like end-of-summer sales to make the most of every dollar while building out your barbecue, patio or porch. After all, you should be able to enjoy a cozy outdoor fire pit well into October.

What to expect from retailers this Labor Day weekend

We anticipate a ton of Labor Day deals at a variety of retailers, including usual suspects like Amazon, Walmart, Target, Kohl’s and more. Wayfair is always a good spot to check for deals on home goods, and we wouldn’t be surprised if clothing and accessories retailers like Nordstrom, Macy’s, JCPenney, Old Navy, Zappos, Coach Outlet and more have massive markdowns. Outdoor enthusiasts shouldn’t forget to take a peek at REI and The North Face.

Senior Deals Writer Britt Ross finally bought a pair to see what all the hype was about. Fair warning: She says they come vacuum-sealed, so when you first see them, you’ll think, There’s no way these will be comfortable. But give ’em a few hours, and they fluff up beautifully.

She writes, “I was impressed by how soft yet supportive they feel, and was pleased to find that their breathable construction kept me from waking up with sweaty hair. Now I want to replace every pillow in my house with these — especially while they’re on rare sale for over 50% off.” (That’s their lowest price of 2025.)

Psst: Another Yahoo writer also swears by them — check out her full Beckham Hotel Collection Bed Pillows review for more.
